Social Anxiety: Clinical trial

You may have access to an online program that has already proven successful in Australia.

How is the program structured? 

  • Program 
    Six lessons to follow at your own pace in 12 weeks; online self-guided or supported by your healthcare provider; the next lesson becomes available every 5 days.
  • Relevant storyline 
    In the form of a comic strip, you follow Matthew and Kate, who are exploring strategies to help them manage their symptoms of social anxiety.
  • Homework and complementary material 
    Lesson summaries, action plans, additional activities and information to facilitate learning and skills development. 

Involvement  

This research project takes place entirely online. 

Participants will be asked :

  1. to fill out questionnaires when they enrol in the project,
  2. to do the programme in 12 weeks,
  3. to fill out questionnaires after the program and
  4. six months later.

Inclusion : 

  • 18 years old and over;
  • Reading and writing in English or French;
  • Having access to the Internet and a computer/tablet on which to access the intervention;
  • Having social anxiety symptoms;
  • If a healthcare provider recommended the intervention to you, living in the health administrative region of Montérégie or Chaudière-Appalaches.

Exclusion : 

  • Active suicidal risk;
  • Severe symptoms of depression;
  • Having received a diagnosis of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or active substance abuse disorder;
  • Taking benzodiazepines;
  • Having started a new psychotherapy in the last four weeks or a new medication in the last eight weeks for anxiety or depression.
